On September 17, Shepherd University held its second annual Candlelight Vigil for Suicide Prevention, gathering students, faculty, and community members in front of the Scarborough Library. Organized by Wendy Baracka, Shepherd University's Director of Counseling, in partnership with Rams Care and Student Services, the vigil aimed to raise awareness and provide support for those struggling with mental health.
The event included participation from various organizations, such as Morgan's Message, which works to support student athletes' mental health, and the Brian O'Neill Jr. Foundation, alongside other local organizations offering resources. The evening highlighted the importance of recognizing the signs of mental distress and encouraged open conversations about mental health.
The vigil stood as a beacon of hope, offering a space for reflection, connection, and the reminder that no one has to face mental health struggles alone.
