Three Evidenced Based Programs We Promote

We proudly support and promote three evidence-based programs in the Eastern Panhandle. Sources of Strength is implemented in six Berkeley County Schools, Eastern Panhandle Preparatory Academy and will be implementing the program in Jefferson County high schools and Shepherd University in the Fall of 2024. Our president, Lee O'Neill, is a certified trainer for Sources of Strength and will be working on becoming a Regional Trainer in 2024-2025 school year. We are supporters of bringing SafeTALK and ASIST training to our area to continue to educate our community on Suicide Prevention and Awareness initiatives. With over 200 peer leaders and 100 adult advisors trained, we are making a significant impact on youth suicide prevention.

Empowering Youth for a Brighter Tomorrow

We have Sources of Strength an evidenced based Suicide Prevention program in 6 Berkeley County Schools and Eastern Panhandle Preparatory Academy.  We will be training Adult Advisors and Peer Leaders in Jefferson County high schools in Fall of 2024.  We will also be training Peer Advisors at Shepherd University in the Fall 2024.  We have trained over 200 students as Peer Leaders in becoming “Connectors to Help” and “Agents of Change”.  We have also trained over 100 Adult Advisors to work with the students in developing strength-based campaigns in their schools.

Sources of Strength

Sources of Strength is an innovative youth suicide prevention initiative that leverages peer social networks to shift harmful norms and promote positive change. This program aims to boost help-seeking behaviors and strengthen connections between young people and supportive adults. By focusing on building multiple protective factors around individuals, Sources of Strength creates a robust support system that helps youth navigate challenging times effectively.

SafeTalk

SafeTALK offers a concise, half-day training designed to equip participants with the skills to identify and engage individuals who might be experiencing suicidal thoughts. Participants learn how to connect those at risk with appropriate community resources trained in suicide intervention. This program fosters a proactive approach to suicide prevention, empowering educators and community members to act with confidence.

Sources of Strength

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two day interactive workshop in suicide first aid and more. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.
